Through the medium of dance, our project will train and nurture about 100 underprivileged children between the ages of 6-17 yrs in the township of Gugulethu. We intend creating a generation of youths who will get the opportunity to empower themselves, to have a sense of worth, pride and discipline. We intend to steer and improve our beneficiaries into mature and responsible citizens in the new democratic South Africa and paying it forward in their community.
There are about 100,000 people living in Gugulethu most of them in poverty and Zama has consistently enrolled approximately 100 children between the ages of 6 to 17 years old annually. Although Zama has had a positive effect on the future of some of the youth in Gugulethu, an achievement that has improved the lives of its beneficiaries for over 25 years, it still depend on almost a 100% of its donors funding as the community are too impoverished to contribute anything to our sustainability.
Zama Dance School promotes the holistic development of children at risk, by equipping them with a sense of pride, self-discipline and achievement through the medium of dance, specifically classical ballet. Zama also provides a meal for its youth to ensure that they get the necessary nutritional requirement on a daily basis.
Our proven record indicates that our success can be measured by our historical achievements over the more than 25 years in existence. Our continued attendance from about 10 originally to 100 children annually have been consistent for more than 25 years and have elevated their careers and stance in society. We have witnessed how our successful students have returned to our facility and ploughed back their knowledge and experience to our beneficiaries at the school which they once attended.
