The vulnerability of farmers of Tamil Nadu, due to drought makes the lives of their children more vulnerable to become child labour, school dropout, develop unhygienic behavior and live in an unprotective environment. The government schools with poor infrastructure facilities discourage the children and parents. This project improves infrastructure in government schools and provide life skills to children of farmers, empower them to fight the challenge farmers face today.
Majority of rural poor children are children of poor landless agricultural farmers in Tamil Nadu. Poorly equipped government schools are the only choice for education of these children. Lack of basic facilities affect the regular attendance, poor behavior, drop out, early marriage, child labour, drug abuse of children and so on. There is no role model for these children to learn life skills and good knowledge, attitude and behavior. Children of today cannot break the vicious circle of poverty.
This project will construct child friendly toilets with incinerator, provide 10 bench or desks and racks to 15 government schools. 50 orphan / vulnerable children will be provided uniforms and dress materials. These facilities will improve the motivation and opportunity for the children to continue education. Life skill education on developing vision, self-esteem, duties and responsibilities will enable the children to think of opportunities around them and empower them to fight poverty.
The learning environment of rural schools and quality of education of children of farmers will improve. The farmers are the back bone of India and children are the national assets of India. Children of Indian farmers especially from Tamil Nadu are most vulnerable due to poor monsoon. Improved quality of education, empowered state of children will enable farmers's children to look for more opportunities to promote Indian farming, take appropriate policies and programmes to protect farmers.
