Lake Mountains Sports and Talent Organization intends to provide sporting opportunities and facilities to 1000 children and youth in marginalized conflict areas in Kenya ,also using sports to nurture talent, increase school attendance, fight radicalization ,promote peace, fight early marriages for the girl child and limit recruitment of young men into warriors used for cattle rustling.
There are currently more than 20000 children and youth in the Region of west- pokot who have been affected by military operations in the region . According to Kenya Bureau of Statistics and UNICEF children of up to 12 years are involved directly or indirectly during cattle rustling and military operations denying children right to grow and play ,a school attendance of 26% was recorded and even lower for girl child who were affected by forced and earlier marriages.we are targeting 1000 children
Lake Mountains Sports & Talent Organization provides sports, meals, and sports equipment and facilities to schools and communities. The children's mothers are trained on importance of sports for children and encouraged to support children to attend schools, nurture talent and set up community sports facilities. The mothers are also taught to share their new knowledge with their neighbors for peace and co-existence.
The project will provide sports opportunity to 1000 boys and girls allowing them to rise out of insecurity, early marriages ,increase school attendance and lead to peaceful co-existence among communities . Talented athletes will join academies where they will nurture their talents to professionalism opening up the community to more opportunities. Girl child participation in sports will help in developing gender equality and empowering the girl child to step out and take lead.
