In Argentina, only 13% of youths from socio economically vulnerable contexts are able to access higher education. Mujeres 2000 works every day to change that reality and provide opportunities. With our Acceder Estudiando program, we are working to change this reality. We work with youths from vulnerable contexts to help them achieve their dream of attending University and having a better future. We provide a monthly stipend, individual tutors to help them study, and soft skills workshops.
Access to higher education helps students access better job opportunities and improve their living standards, and that of their families. Nevertheless, in vulnerable neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, many youths are unable to sustain their studies due to economic and academic barriers.
Mujeres2000 provides its fellows with economic and academic assistance: monthly financial aids, a personal tutor, workshops and work placement activities are the main tools of the program. By covering the studying and transport costs, we make sure, students can fully concentrate on their academic progress. Constant meetings with their tutor facilitate the students' adjustment to the new university environment. Academic difficulties are addressed by support classes in the respective subject.
Our initiative stimulates the dominant attitude among young people from low- income families towards superior education: By stressing successful examples of students and their long- term professional opportunities we aim to convince more people to apply for a scholarship of our program. It will provide them with the tools required to create a solid foundation for their future and to rise out of poverty, generating from a long- term perspective a small economic impulse for the whole community.
