At We women Myanmar we believe in equal opportunities for everyone, irrespective of gender or ethnicity, culture, education and religious believes. We assist ambitious women who are working towards an equal society, with the ultimate goal of an established, self empowered and influential community of women leaders. This specific scholarship is part of our leadership project, we want to support Nang Mwe in her endeavour to achieve equality for her community in Shan State.
Traditionally women have subordinate roles in Myanmar, which often makes it hard for them to be active agents of change in their society. This situation is even harder for women that come from ethnic minorities, as their access to education and work opportunities have been extremely limited. Since a year a military coup has made life and now more than ever we need strong women leaders who can work on social transformation in Myanmar.
We women supports extraordinary women who understand the deeply complex and diverse needs of their community. We support them in realising the potential they have to change their lives, their families' lives, the lives of people in their communities and ultimately to guide Myanmar through its journey to become a free country and fully fledged democracy. We provide leadership projects and scholarships so that women get the theoretical knowledge to achieve these goals.
We believe that women's education and supporting their journey towards leadership is the world's best investment that has many returns. It doesn't only lead to economic growth but also has positive impact in many places around the world leading to reduced rates of infant mortality, maternal mortality and child marriage. Education also improves the health of women and children, enhances social status and leads to gender equality.
