The project will purchase a village house with a garden for Aleksandra from Serbia. She is a single mother of 3 children, who escaped from her violent husband, currently living below the poverty line, in a shed, abused by the landlord. The family will get financial, psychological and educational support, and become able to grow food and make a steady income.
Aleksandra (32) lives with her three young children (10, 8 and 3) in an extremely vulnerable situation in a two-room dilapidated shed without a bathroom and running water. The landlord allows her to live in this shed for free, but often seeks sexual gratification as a condition. Aleksandra lacks confidence, job skills and secure living environment needed to turn her hope into a reality. Her neighbors give her food, but when it's not enough, she doesn't eat in order to feed her children.
The project will purchase and fully furnish a village house for Aleksandra and her 3 children. The family will get start-up grant that will allow them to plant a garden and wood that will be used for heating during the winter months. During the two year period of social support, the Foundation will also provide Aleksandra with additional monthly stipend of $100. A job skills training program will be designed for Aleksandra to provide her with skills to make a steady income.
The project will provide Aleksandra and her three children a secure living environment, free from potential abuse, by purchasing a fully furnished village house. The family will be able to use the land to plant a garden and provide sustenance. Her new skills and confidence will help them in making a steady income, and become a proud and happy family.
