Challenge

The farmers of the proposed project area are commonly being followed inorganic farming practices in cultivation of crops, which reveals their more dependency on external inputs like seeds, pesticides, weedicides and fertilizers. However, an increased investment on crop production has resulted in many farmers to get into the debt trap or commit suicide. Besides, many of the rural youths are being migrated to urban areas in search of jobs due to these problems.

Solution

Organize farmers into institutions which can help them to have better planning, greater control over their production, help to access resources and support, improve food security and move up in the value chain. Promotion of innovative composting techniques, vermi composting and green manuring. Introduction and demonstration of crop based bio-fertilizers. Preparation of botanicals and their use in pests control.Linkages for marketing, technologies, study tours, soil testing services and demos.

Long-Term Impact

Improved income from the lands of 300 small marginal and women farmers Improved the agricultural productivity. Improved the living condition of farming community in 15 villages Improved the health status of the villagers and consumers. Cropping pattern is shifted from the chemical farming to organic farming. Use of the external outputs reduced drastically and maximum requirements are fulfilling at village level.
