This project will prepare up 100 youth to become CPR/First Aide certified. We want to raise awareness as it regards disaster recovery and or saving lives in our community and in the home should a natural disaster or the need for life saving measures occur. Youth will engage community residents and youths by providing information and teaching life saving skills in workshops at community centers and school presentations.
The problem is that many of our inner city youth and residents are not aware of disaster recovery issues and or how to respond should a disaster such as the past hurricanes that hit the U.S had hit Philadelphia PA. Moreover, the need for CPR/First Aid certification can equip many in knowing how to respond should a disaster or the need for life saving measures occur. This could happen anywhere, i.e. school, the playing field, or at home with younger siblings or other family members.
The project will provide adult and children CPR/First Aide certification for up to 100 youth. They will be equipped , trained and prepared to raise awareness around disaster recovery and life saving measures. In addition, they will also have a skill that can later be used when seeking volunteer and employment opportunities.
The potential long-term effects will be an informed and safer community; youth and residents who are certified to help save a life and more importantly, they will have a life long skill that can be used when applying for volunteer and employment opportunities.
