On Call Africa provides medical services for thousands of people in Zambia's rural Southern Provence, people who would otherwise have little or no access to essential health services. It works to strengthen the capacity of existing services to care for the immediate health needs of the community, such that it augments and expands existing services rather than replaces them.
Zambia is a landlocked country in sub-Saharan Africa. There is a massive shortage of healthcare personnel in Zambia with 1 doctor to every 16,000 people. Several rural communities are in desperate need of healthcare, lying several kilometers from existing health facilities. These communities face enormous challenges including inadequate water supply and malnutrition.
On Call Africa mobile clinics have the capacity to treat a number of common complaints and diagnose many conditions including HIV, Malaria, STIs & pregnancy without requiring patients to travel to outstretched health centers. Dedicated antenatal & child health services make sure mothers & children are healthy during and after pregnancy.
Through mobile medical clinics, the basic level of health of the local populations is raised. Since 2011 On Call Africa has treated over 30,000 unique patients. Our health education sessions focus on empowering Zambians to live healthy lives, using community-based solutions. Since 2014 we have been training Community Health Workers (CHW) to better meet the immediate health needs of their communities.
