We are a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization that has given over 150 prosthetic arms and legs and more than 75 educational scholarships to survivors and the families of the Sierra Leone civil war and blood diamond trade. There is a dire need for trusted organizations such as ours to help the 4,000 displaced children by providing temporary shelter, food, water and medical supplies to the survivors of the devastating mudslide in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
Over 4,000 children have been affected by the the mudslides. UNICEF estimates that 40% of those affected are between 6-18 and 15% are under the age of 5. Many of these children are now orphaned or homeless and school is beginning this month. It is important that these children have the necessary food, water, medical attention and shelter to remain hopeful of their future.
The project will be collecting donations to help provide for these children because they are the most at risk in times like these. They are often exploited during natural disasters so we must ensure they are getting the proper care they need. The donations raised will go directly to the children affected and supply them with adequate food and water supplies, medical attention and shelter.
If these children have access to food, water, medical attention and shelter, they will be able to return to school much sooner and therefore prevent a life of poverty. Our goal is to help as many children we can get back into school. This community first experienced a civil war, then Ebola and now only 2 years later, a devastating natural disaster. It is important we help them get back on their feet as quickly as possible.
