On-Site Training on Tilapia Culture & Management

Pond culture is the most popular method of growing tilapia in the world. They are grown in fertilized ponds where the fish utilize natural food from ponds. In this culture practice, fish are usually stocked at low rates to reduce competition for food. In times like this, where our food supply is dwindling, introduction of culture Tilapia is timely. Tilapia is not just delicious but also nutritious, and most of all very affordable.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources was continually seeking and implementing interventions to facilitate the stable supply of fishery commodities. The Municipality of Palompon did a follow-up initiative to the training on Intensive Tilapia Culture in Ponds they conducted last May 12, 2020. They held a 1-day on-site training seminar on Tilapia Culture and Management which was conducted in Palompon last December 6, 2020 through the Municipal BFAR.

The objective of this training is to empower and capacitate the previous trained participants to learn how to properly and successfully manage a small fish pond or fish cage.

Some trained members of Buenavista All-Lights Village Fisherfolks Association attended. The trainer's presentation empowered Buenavista Fisherfolks by gaining good insights in management and during the Focused Group Discussion among participants they gained good practices fitted to their respective situations.
