Challenge

The floods in the state of Assam in June 2017 has so far claimed 83 human lives besides the massive devastation it caused on human habitation displacing as many as 1,31,899 inmates who were sheltered in 363 relief camps set up by the district administration spread across 29 districts . At present the thousands of families are living in the temporary shelters even after four months when floods hit, hence it is necessary that they receive support to rebuild disaster resilient houses.

Solution

The project aims at : -constructing new houses for 10 flood affected families and - reduce the vulnerabilities of these families by engaging and educating the beneficiaries on health and hygiene.

Long-Term Impact

The long term impact of the project is to provide these families with disaster resilient houses so that it not only provides them shelter that they have lost in the floods this year, but also provides them protection against such natural disasters in the future.
