HELP EBPP MANIKAJI SCHOOL CONTINUE DURING COVID-19

Summary

This project will enable more than 50 Manikaji school-age children to continue getting quality, relevant and inclusive education now that our 2020 donor cannot continue funding since his 3 Bali hotels closed due to COVID-19 pandemic. Children in rural areas risk getting left behind by not getting the quality education they deserve. Our school, the only one in the area, provides academic and life skills classes, enabling 3 girl graduates to get university scholarships and become agent of change.

Challenge

Due to the remote location of Manikaji hamlets, parents have relied on EBPP's school for children's education since we launched it in 2001, as the nearest government school is 6km away, a 2 hours walk on mountain dirt track with no public transport. If our school did not exist, most of these children would not go to school and many of them would still be illiterate. The COVID-19 pandemic added a burden on parents & students amidst limited learning facilities in the midst of their many struggles.

Solution

Our school is free for all students, providing we have enough funds to cover all school operational costs.With your support, school-age children in this remote mountain hamlet will continue getting full access to EBPP's integrated education in their own hamlet school, and all parents will continue to encourage and support their children going to school so they can learn from them, as most parents are illiterate due to limited funds or educational opportunities when they were school age.

Long-Term Impact

By continuing to provide high quality relevanteducation, where we've educated 260 children in Manikaji hamlets since 2001, andone of our first graduates joined EBPP staff as a maths teacher in 2011, becoming Manikaji School Head Teacher in 2015, we've sponsored one boy and 3 girls to further education at Bali universities, all who've become role models.During the COVID-19 crisis the 3 girls have become mentors for other girl students and our four 2021 12th gradegraduates are ready to lead.
