On 20th May, 2016 a consultation meeting on Climate Learning was held at ECCA hall targeting teachers of various schools of Lalitpur district. The primary objective of this meeting was to make the participants familiar with global environmental issues and Climate Learning Project of ECCA, so that they can act as environment conservation stimulators for young students.
The program commenced by an introduction session and a presentation session that gave the participants idea about the Climate Change issues, the evolving global actions to combat it, and the Climate Learning concept. The session got interesting as participants voluntarily started to provide their feedback on practicability of the project. The need to explore and expand the knowledge of schools on practical / experimental basis, instead of a theoretical one, is very high in Nepal so as to bring them closer to improved thinking (which was a highly prioritized subject of the whole program).
“I like the idea of teaching students based on scientific, technical and research practices, but the lack of scientific equipment can be very challenging”, said one of the teachers.
Many agreed with him. “But we can play an important role to help students explore and develop a habit of acting towards environment conservation. It will enhance their creativity level as well.”
The feedback provided by the participants definitely made the program meaningful. The willingness of the schools to adopt this scientific learning added more value to the output of this consultation workshop. It was very productive to share experimental learning phenomenon among the teachers and to know that similar interaction programs can greatly help every individual reflect on his / her role towards global issues.
