Food & medication for Lebanese disabled children

Thank you

SESOBEL thanks you once again for your faith in its mission. It is a great reward to find people and associations like you!

On behalf of our children, who have no choice but to rely on foundations like you to overcome their difficulties, we would like to express our immense gratitude for your generous donation.

Actual situation of SESOBEL

SESOBEL is a non-governmental organization founded in 1976, for the welfare of the child with disability and his family.

SESOBEL takes all possible steps to implement a coherent and monitored service of assisting children with disability and to accompany their families as partners in facing life’s challenges, and works equally hard with all elements of society for them to recognize the value, dignity, and respect for children with disabilities.

More than 1300 children suffering from intellectual and/or motor disabilities or from autism, are taken care of in terms of medical, social, educational, rehabilitation, and human assistance..

SESOBEL offers adapted care and services to more than 1,300 children with disabilities:

- Medical and rehabilitative care

- An adapted education system

- A framework for human, social and existential development.

SESOBEL relies almost on 80% of its budget on the generosity of the Lebanese, but currently, we can no longer do it, because almost all Lebanese live in anxiety, depression, and fear of tomorrow...

As you already know, the financial situation that Lebanon has been going through for more than 2 years has reduced our income; the economy is shaken, prices are skyrocketing, wages are not being paid and people are running out of money ...

Indeed, several sectors of the economy are in a state of regression and risk huge losses:

Lebanese banks, very affected by the crisis, have implemented withdrawal restrictions with a very severe ceiling. Namely, that our national currency depends on the US dollar: conversion to the dollar is currently proving difficult, if not impossible, given the rise in the rate of the dollar on the foreign exchange market. Likewise, hospitals have already been forced to stop treatment, due to the lack of available drugs due to the lack of dollars on the market, and above all due to a shortage of medical supplies. In addition, growing unemployment, mass layoffs of workers, fuel shortages, rising food prices, which have become scarce due to lack of imports. In short, the economy is sinking. The sinking will take the whole country to uncertain horizons.

Our ultimate goal is to meet the urgent life needs of our children and their families.

SESOBEL, like the majority of Lebanese associations, suffered the consequences of this situation. We find it difficult to generate income in order to persevere in our mission towards our children and young people with disabilities.

Furthermore, the medication reimbursement system in Lebanon is based on social security, the armed forces, private insurance. But many parents with free employment are not covered by social benefits and do not have private insurance because it is quite expensive for an entire family.

Since the start of the crisis, many parents who had the means before the crisis were no longer able to cope. Either because they are unemployed, have lost their jobs, or because they earn half a salary ... not to mention the galloping inflation due to the current dollar rate.

Thanks to your donation SESOBEL was able to provide medicines for needy children.

SESOBEL generally insures the drugs only to needy families. It presents the needs to donors, drugstores, pharmacies, dispensaries who are interested in helping. But since these are chronic medicines that the children take for life, the team often finds it very difficult to insure them on a regular and continuous basis, for this most of the time SESOBEL buys the medicines through a pharmacy that considers our children needs as a priority.

Children and youth (especially children and youth whose parents do not have social benefits or live in insecurity with a difficult financial situation) with the following pathologies benefit from these drugs:

- Epilepsy

- behavioral disorders (autism spectrum disorders, severe mental retardation, etc.)

- involuntary movements such as dystonia (cerebral palsy…)

- hypertonia or spasticity (cerebral palsy ...

- gastric disorders (constipation, esophageal reflux….

- psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety,

- metabolic diseases Non-cetogenic hyperglycinemia, pump disease… ..

- neuromuscular and / or neurodegenerative diseases

(Duchenne, spinal muscular atrophy type II, congenital myopathy…

-endocrine disorders (diabetes, hyperthyroidism ...

- cardiovascular illnesses

These drugs are distributed monthly to families with guidance for proper use. Prescriptions are made and personalized after regular checkups organized by doctors at SESOBEL or in the clinics in the presence of parents and nurses (Neuropediatrician, psychiatrist, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist neurologist, etc.).

Note that all doctors offer their services free of charge.

Your solidarity and concern for our children during this period of crisis, as well as your contribution, strongly supported the children and provided help for their families.

On behalf of SESOBEL team and all of our children, please accept our sincere appreciation.
