Restoring ecosystems creates a world of abundance and provides humanity with hope for a better future. Ecosystem Restoration Camps (ERC) is a global, grassroots movement that is restoring degraded ecosystems globally. Our 41 Ecosystem Restoration Projects (we call them Camps) have already planted 1,225,000 trees in our first 3 years and are currently restoring 4,392 Ha. Our big goal is to have one million people come together by 2030 and restore degraded ecosystems in 100 Camps around the world.
Healthy ecosystems underpin everything that humanity needs to sustain life on this planet yet almost three quarters of the earth is degraded and more than 3 billion people are affected by soil erosion caused by land mismanagement & unsustainable agricultural techniques. It is vital that we act now to reverse the effects of climate change and land degradation that is bringing about biodiversity loss, a lack of food & water security, compromised livelihoods and a reduction in carbon sequestration.
ERC is a global, inclusive, bottom-up movement that restores Earth's ecosystems. Camps are living laboratories where experts, local communities and lay people work together to restore ecosystems and livelihoods. Camps engage thousands of people through citizen science and hands-on work to introduce regenerative practices that will make it possible for humanity to thrive on this planet. We empower community-led projects to take the lead on the restoration movement and reach a global impact!
By rehabilitating damaged ecosystems and practicing regenerative agriculture, Ecosystem Restoration Camps are restoring the natural function to the land on thousands of hectares globally. This leads to an increase in soil fertility; a reduction in soil erosion, floods and drought; and the re-establishment of entire food webs. Restoring the earth brings about a significant reduction in poverty through the return of sustainable livelihoods in degraded areas.
