Challenge

In Senegal, the late entry to school and the high rate of deschooling affect the quality of education, which is essential for the development of children. The quality of education is also reduced by an inappropriate environment: overcrowded classrooms, limited instructional time, a poor social climate and inappropriate teaching materials. Access to quality education is even more complicated for girls, children with disabilities, etc.

Solution

Building on its successful experience in Burundi since 2016, with the financial support of AFD, the EJO project targets the formal and informal education sectors, focusing on creating links between the two to strengthen the continuity of educational care for children in Senegal. Through a partnership approach, the pedagogical contents are co-constructed with local CSO in order to adapt them to the specific needs of each region.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term objective is to reduce the school drop-out rate in Senegal and to train a maximum number of formal and informal education staff in order to create a real continuity of educational care for children in Senegal. The objective is to reduce inequalities in access to education, particularly for girls, children with disabilities and community minorities.
