Summary

This project will support talented poor girls and boys who have or are at a high risk of high school drop out due to poverty related issues. AOG fellows are grateful youth who have been helped by family, friends, and charity organizations (especially during their studies) and aspire to pay it forward. Since 2011, Acts Of Gratitude (AOG) supported 15 students. AOG pays for their school fees and equip them with important life skills trainings. AOG has a goal of offering 50 scholarships annually.

Challenge

We want to solve an issue of lack of financial means for talented poor teenagers in high school. Those children who are so promising with great grades, yet their families can't afford to pay high school fees and other necessities. In addition to financial constraints, such children also lack motivation and life coaching and are at a very high risk of suspending or dropping out of school. At best, they can end up in early marriages at a very young age, or at worst they can become street children.

Solution

This project will provide tuition fees and school materials coupled with a regular follow-up on the students' performance, health services including check-ups to prevent illnesses, career training and advising program, English classes, Entrepreneurship skills, and mentorship program to keep the students in school. AOG also provides supplementary courses to the scholars. AOG will equip them to win university scholarships and equip them to become responsible adults who care about giving back.

Long-Term Impact

Based on our success so far, we are confident to create through this project a generation of girls and boys who will serve as future socially responsible leaders, entrepreneurs and volunteers of Rwanda. Since 2011, AOG supported 15 students and 10 already graduated. 6 of them won a government scholarships at the University of Rwanda. One recently graduated with a Bachelor's, and 5 joined AOG and donate regularly to support others. 100% participated in community service activities at least once.
