You can help improve the quality of life for up to 50 children with various syndromes and disabilities by providing treatment and therapies. This care is not covered by government-funded medical insurance, and families cannot afford this care without your support. You will provide cognitive, speech, equine, and vocational therapies, as well as therapies for autism. Children in our program also receive medical evaluations and treatments in addition to psychological and social work support.
Rural communities in Mexico have very limited access to medical services. Children often need to travel to the closest cities to receive proper care. Furthermore, the public medical system does not cover the costs of most treatments necessary for children with disabilities, and at a minimum wage of $5.10 USD per day, families can neither afford the care nor the cost of transportation. Your support will make healthcare accessible to children in need.
In 2016, we began by providing special stimulation therapies for 5 children. We have evolved our services and our network of care providers so that, with your help, we can now expand to provide vocational therapies for 15 children, speech therapy for 10 children, special cognitive therapies for 18 children, autism therapies for 6 children, and equine therapy for one child. In total, 50 children can receive care that is otherwise not accessible.
The inability to receive care has a downward spiraling effect on the child and the whole family. Parents often cannot work full time jobs due to child care needs of children who cannot be integrated into schools and the community. By providing access to professional healthcare and wellness services for children from economically disadvantaged families, we aim to improve the quality of life and well being of the children, their families and our community as a whole.
