Provide microloans to 20000 women in extreme poverty in 20 poor villages in Mphepozinai area in Ntcheu District. Widespread poverty and deteriorating health conditions impacting 20,000 women in 20 villages constitute the problem being addressed by the proposed project. EVARD became aware of the acute economic poverty reflected in low incomes and financial hardships during needs assessment, consultations and baseline survey conducted in July 2016. Lack of capacity to implement a beekeeping enterprise due to resource constraints is the challenge the poor women are facing. In Malawi women fall below poverty
The proposed project will solve the problem by supporting 20 cooperatives, one for each village with a revolving fund of about US$3,400.00 to invest in 20 beehives placed in community forests over 3 years period. The fund will form village banking service to be managed by a project management committee. These cooperatives will then be linked to viable markets to sell the harvested honey. Building of bee boxes, training and education for women have the capacity to operate beekeeping enterprises.
Better quality of life, increased income levels from US$125.00 to US$400 per capita income per household. Socially and economically uplifted impoverished women managing profitable cooperatives is the long term impact anticipated from this project. It will involve 20 beehives in community forests one for each village managed by a village cooperative consisting of 200 members. The p poorest of the poor. 20000 women will achieve economic self-reliance aided by established user friendly loan fund.
