Summary

Political instability and human demand for rhino horn, led to increased poaching and the annihilation of this species. Today, there are just two northern white rhinos remaining in the world, Najin and Fatu - mother and daughter. They live on Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya and are protected by armed guards 24/7. We - humans - are responsible. However, there is hope. We have embarked on a groundbreaking program to save this species and are inviting you to join us on this next critical step.

Challenge

We have now created twelve northern white rhino embryos which will be implanted into southern white surrogates. Two suitable surrogates and a teaser bull have been selected and moved into a 45-acre enclosure, where they are being closely monitored by their dedicated caregivers. This is crucial in establishing the onset of ovulation and other processes required for successful embryo implantation. However, we need to enhance the current infrastructure to complete this next stage.

Solution

Without this improvement, we cannot predict the right time to implant the embryos. Improved monitoring will allow the caregivers to observe the surrogates whilst ensuring their protection from poachers. We are looking to install a monitoring tower and cameras to help observe the surrogates' behavior and identify when would be best to proceed with the implantation. This is key in the next step of the recovery program. We invite you to join us and help save this species.

Long-Term Impact

This is a critical stage in our program to save the northern white rhino. By donating today, you will be embarking on a journey to save a species.
