Sixteenth Graduation Ceremony

Dear donor, please accept a warm greeting.  Thank you for your donation, we are thrilled to have your support. Through your donation we have been able to accomplish many goals and continue working towards to offering an affordable and quality education that fosters the professional and personal development of the young beneficiaries. You truly make the difference to us, and we are extremely grateful !

We are delighted to share with you these pictures of the 16th Graduation Ceremony of the school which took place yesterday July 29.   72 youth were graduated from high school (technical training included) and some students and teachers were awarded for their performance.

The Principal of the school expressed his satisfaction for the achievements of the last school year (despite the challenges of the virtual education) and exhorted the graduates to never forget the human values that were instilled in them.

Given the current circumstances, we decided to do a short and very simple ceremony. In fact, we had two ceremonies (one in the morning and the other in the afternoon), it is that to say that the graduates and their closest relatives were divided into two groups as part of the safety protocols. But it was still very meaningful and emotional, as always

The summer vacation just started. The 2021-2022 school year will start in the next September, which will be developed face to face according to the government decision given that the pandemic is under control and the national vaccination program is going very well.

We are very excited about the return of the students to the class rooms  !

In the upcoming months we will keep you updated on the progress of our project. If you have any comment, advice or question, please let us know and we will respond as best we can.

Thank you very much again for your support, we truly appreciate it !

Best wishes !

Inauguration ceremony

Dear Donor, please receive a warm greeting.   We are so grateful for your support. You are making the vision of a better world much more possible.

Thank you for believing in the power of generosity !

We are very happy and proud to inform you that the Inauguration Ceremony of the center was held in the last July 2, with the attendance of the Vice-President of the Dominican Republic, government representatives, executives of our foundation, community leaders, representatives of our partner entities, local authorities among other special invitees.  What an emotional moment !

Please see the pictures attached.

This center, located in the underserved community of Veron, will benefit to thousands of people living in this and other deprived communities of the province, who can not access ophthalmological services.

Truthfully, we could not do this without you.

In this first stage the center will serve the community with the basic equipment but there are still many needs to meet in terms of equipment, staff trainings and medical supplies. We look forward to a continuing partnership with you.

We at Fundación Grupo Puntacana are inspired by the dedication and generosity of donors like you, who answer the call to give to those most in need.

We will keep you informed about the progress of the project. If you have any comment, advice or question, please feel free to direct them to us and we will answer as best we can.

There is no way to fully express our gratitude for your support.

Best wishes,

A look at the latest activities of our coral gardeners team.

Over the last weeks, we have been working on the installation of a new coral nursery at a depth of approximately 12 meters. These are multiple table-shaped structures with the aim of favoring the growth and care of species present in this area of the reef, such as Agaricia tenuifolia (thin leaf lettuce coral), Porites porites (finger coral), Porites astreoides (yellow porites) and Acropora palmata (elkhorn coral). This is a progressive job that requires numerous hours in water for the installation of structures, selection of colonies and periodic maintenance and checks.

These activities are embedded in a great plan to restore the reefs in the area.

We have also been working on a Captive parrot fish fattening project. During 6 months, experiments will be carried out with a total of 36 juvenile individuals of parrotfish of the same species, varying the amount and type of diet (sea grass, squid and the combination of both) in order to test (a) if the increase of some type of diet results in an increase in the biomass of the specimen and (b) if the combined diet results in an increase in biomass. This project will be carried out in the facilities of the fish nursery of the Marine Innovation Center where there will be a closed-circuit system with 14 aquariums. The project will be carried out by a fisherman from the area, who has received training and will be under the supervision of a biologist.
