Female Empowerment through Education

Empowering Girls through Knowledge
Empowering Girls through Knowledge

Little Saima* dreams of being a doctor one day. The 11-year old lives with her mother and three sisters in Sylhet, Bangladesh. Abandoned by her husband, Saima’s mother has to work extra hard to support her family. With schools closed due to Covid-19 and because her mother could not afford it, Saima could not continue at school. Her inability to support her child’s education has been a severe burden on Saima’s mother. But now, Saima can continue her education even in this pandemic! Due to JAAGO’s sponsorship program, Saima now has a guardian angel taking care of her studies.

It is undeniable that the future of an entire population lies in the hands of women; at JAAGO, we want to equip these hands with the most potent weapon for any individual, a pen. JAAGO takes on a holistic approach to providing knowledge to the children at our school for them to be aware of the latest developments in the world.

For the girl students at JAAGO, our mission is to make them academically successful and develop their minds to think beyond what they are taught at home. These children are often raised in conventional communities with a strict sense of perspective. For these children to become strong individuals with an understanding of their rights and be attuned to the upcoming topics of global discussion, JAAGO organises different seminars and workshops for them.

But unfortunately still today there are some popular beliefs in our society regarding girl's education. For example, people believe that girls should stay at home, do the household chores and look after the children only. Due to these beliefs, many girls have to engage themselves with 24/7 household activities from a very young age.

Due to such beliefs, many low-income families in our country are indifferent to educating their daughters. For them, it will be just another luxurious expense and nothing else. So yes, your donations for our girl's education projects can give our girls a better life, a life where they will get all the opportunities to get an education and live their dreams.

Many children like Saima look to be sponsored to receive the basic right to education and dream beyond their limits and break free from the shackles of poverty. However, through your sponsorship or donation, female children receive opportunities that they are not born to. Help change lives by donating and educating a girl child like Saima.

Thank You Note

We want to express our gratitude to the donors of this project. They are gifting female children with the opportunity to receive education and pave the way for them to bring sustainable change to their community.

Your Support Helps People in Need Fight COVID-19

Food Bags Distribution
Food Bags Distribution

Coronavirus has a devastating effect all over the world. Thousands of innocent people are dying due to this, and the number of infected people is increasing day by day. Poor marginalised, daily wage workers are losing work and not getting food & basic needs due to financial constraints. As a result, they suffer from adverse effects and their life is becoming worse.

The second wave of COVID-19 has already hit our country. So there is an increase in the detection of new cases and deaths due to the infection. Our government is tackling the upcoming surge. But that is not enough. By maintaining proper safety measures, we resumed our relief activity again to help the ones in need. With your help, we were able to help the marginalised communities once again.

For the last few months, during the lockdown, our volunteers worked day and night to end the sufferings of thousands of underprivileged families all over Bangladesh. In Ramadan, we collected Zakat and used them to provide food for the ones in need. Along with food bags, we also distributed Iftars so that people could break their fasts on time with food.  This was only possible with the support you have given us. Together, we could help get life-saving food to the children and families who needed it the most.

A few days back, when we were distributing food bags in one of the slums of Dhaka, a boy, aged 14, came to us and broke into tears. The only earning member in his family, his mother died due to COVID-19, and now he has to look after his only family, his sister. Because of your continuous support, we could help him. But is it the end? Are we done helping? Not at all! We need to unite together and help more people to survive. And we cannot do this alone. We need you now more than ever.

Endless Gratitude

During this pandemic, JAAGO Foundation has been working extensively to solve problems and take necessary actions through various activities. Apart from distributing food packages, we are also raising awareness about the prevention of Coronavirus. We are fighting with an invisible force, and it requires enormous motivation and willpower to get things done during this crisis period. Your support will be our force towards working more efficiently for the marginalised people. Our endless gratitude to the kind souls and the organisations who have helped us reach this far. We look forward to your support!

COVID-19 in the World's Largest Refugee Camp

Empowering the Rohingya Children through Knowledge
Empowering the Rohingya Children through Knowledge

Since their arrival in Bangladesh, Rohingya refugees faced new challenges – floods, landslides, severe storms and now, they are fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“My family had a beautiful house which had some land, livestock and a beautiful pond”
, says ten-year-old Raja*. His family left all this behind and rebuilt their lives in a refugee camp far from home. At the Safe Haven project by JAAGO Foundation, this is the first time he has received any education and training since his family fled to Bangladesh. Before the pandemic, Raja used to play with his friends in the play zone and learn their lessons together. He also enjoyed and learned a lot from the personal protection activities and proper hygiene lessons.

But since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, all the learning centres were closed. We had to suspend all the activities except food distribution and medical facilities. However, we have been in touch with our students and ensured everyone is safe and staying in their house.

This year, we were making preparations to open our Learning Centers, but we had to stop everything again due to the second wave of the pandemic, as we couldn't; risk the lives of these beautiful children. But we are tracking our students and their well-being through our Rohingya volunteers. They are helping us as much as they can.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a new threat to these overcrowded conditions. With your support, we are trying to ensure that all Rohingya children are supported with the holistic care needed to return them to a sense of normalcy and ensure that they can thrive.

Thank You Note

We are very grateful to the donors of this project for supporting the young minds to give them a better future. We have come a long way, but there is a lot to be done still. This journey couldn't have been possible without our patrons, NGO partners, corporates, donors, and well-wishers who have been our companions in the path of fulfilling this dream. Thank you for your generous support of our Safe Haven Project, which has been able to put a smile on the faces of 500 Rohingya children. We would love to express our appreciation on behalf of them. Our current activities still require a lot of support, and we are on the way to developing the project even better. So we sincerely request our well-wishers and donors to keep supporting us. We hope you all stay safe with your nearest and dearest ones!
